Ancien responsible Khmer Rouge indicted for genocide

The international tribunal to try the Khmer Rouge regime was indicted Monday on charges of genocide the former Cambodian Minister of Social Affairs Ieng Thirith.
The wife of another accused, Ieng Sary had already been indicted for crimes against humanity. She will also appear for war crimes, murder, torture and religious persecution, "said spokesman Reach Sambath court.

The international court has the burden of rendering justice for the estimated 1.7 million Cambodians executed, died from torture, starvation or disease during those dark years, from 1975 to 1979, during which the entire population had been sent rehabilitation in collective farms in the country.

The former leader of the Khmer Rouge prison S-21, "Duch", who was tried for his role in the death of thousands of people, should know his sentence in early 2010. The international court has required 40 years of detention.
