First discovery of a house from the time of Jesus in Nazareth

For the first time remains of a house from the time when Jesus lived were exhumed from Nazareth in Galilee, said on Monday the Israeli Antiquities Authority.
Archaeologists do not establish a direct link between this house and Jesus. According to many Christians, the childhood home of the Virgin Mary was a cave above which stands the imposing Church of the Annunciation.

Yardena Alexander, who led the excavations around the church, explains What emerged was the walls of a house in the first century AD, consisting of two rooms and a courtyard.

This discovery is of utmost importance because it demonstrates for the first time what it was like a house on the Jewish village of Nazareth, "said Alexander in a statement services antiques.

"The building we found was small and unassuming, is probably the model most popular home in Nazareth at the time," she said.

According to the archaeologist, Nazareth, now the largest city in Israel's Arab population, with 65,000 inhabitants, was a hamlet at the time of Jesus.

So far, a number of tombs from this period were found in Nazareth, but no trace of habitation of this century had been uncovered.
